One of my “new” favorite places…rocky mtn national park.

View from Emerald lake at the Dragon Tail and Dead Elk Couloir…we skied the line to the right.
Looking up at the Hallet Couloir (hidden up in middle of pic)..another line we skied

Send-IT! and I started the trip back at the start of Jan taking an avalanche education and safety course (along with Chris Burg and Kristian) in the Rocky Mountain National Park (by estes park, co). Was so impressed with the organization https://coloradomountainschool.com/( and the beauty of rocky mtn national park)…had to finish the trip with another visit. This time — skiing some of the bigger lines that open to ski mountaineering with the more stable spring snowpack.

Have to enjoy the up almost more than the down…just the beauty of being on the mountain

Had an awesome day with CMS guide Andy Hansen…we spent a lot of time working on decision making, assessment of terrain, snowpack and weather. We also spent time on traveling…setting a better skin track, boot pack and use of tools like ice ax and boot and ski crampons. What an awesome day…fun and a ton of learning…

Andy and I on top of the east ridge of Hallet Peak.

Really fortunate for this awesome day…being in a beautiful place, building my experience, and meeting and getting to know Andy.

Gettting ready to head Send-IT! down to the San Juan MTNs (Southern CO) to finish the trip with a few buddies and hopefully Kristian (if schedule allows). The San Juans are one of my favorite mountain ranges in the US.

Cheers! Love Ya

Send-IT! and Driver

WI in Northern Idaho…?

Meet Lauren and Corbet (like corbet’s couloir :). Schweitzer ID locals..

Not only does Lauren own the local must go…bar/grill…hangout, the St Bernard. But her uncle is a huge birkie skier..almost famous!

Send-IT! and I are fortunate that we 1) met Lauren and Cobet (Chopper Pilot!) 2) we are now sleeping in their parking lot and 3)…

The views, terrain, and skiing in the Selkirks is awesome!

Don’t tell anyone about this place 🙂

Big Sky + the Haynors = awesome!

Great few days at Big Sky with our friends and old:) Hudson neighbors.

Big Sky is one of my favorite ski areas…awesome terrain, few crowds, and lots of acres/skier (as Eric says). This is a shot of the headwaters headwall…a place we did some skiing.

One of the highlights was being guided by Harrison (24)… as we tackled a few of the spicier runs via the headwall hike/traverse.

A super fun morning we had together…Harrison provided complete guide service including helping the old man get his ski on at we transitioned to ski/ride 🙂

Grand Targhee (The Ghee…)

Grand Targhee…backside of Jackson on the Western Side of the Tetons…is known for some of the best powder and coolest vibe in the US… Well Chris Morgan (buddy — flew F16s together in Misawa Japan back when we were young..) and I hit it at right time. Quintessential Targhee days…blower power that just keeps coming.

Nice to have a professional photographer (Chris Morgan, Two Sherpas) as a buddy. Better than my iphone shots 🙂

Living van life in lot 4 at targhee… beers/apps at my van (Send-IT!) and dinner in his (custom build out…not roughing it :).

Parking lot 4…quiet, anticipation of more powder….
Fortunate…no doubt!

Back on the skinny skis!

Well I have been hauling the skate skis around for thousands of miles on my trusty steed #Send-It!…time to use them. Some awesome nordic skiing thanks to the Payette Ski Club… (McCall ID).

Meet Rose…who I met on the ski trails (dog friendly..awesome). The owners told me the jacket is not for warmth but for snow ball + fur issues 🙂
Meet Ed…he is the groomer for the Bear Basin (Payette ski club) and from talking with Ed it turns out he does everything else as well! (collects money, maintains trails, club historian…). We talked Birkie for a while… great guy.

Some of the nicest ski trails I have ever been on…ok…not as awesome at the American Birkebeiner but damn close…. Sure beat the president weekend crowds waiting for lifts on the fat skis.

Sure mountain beauty…a great workout. Great grooming…but mother nature kept it soft 🙂

#Send-It! and driver are heading early tomorrow AM for a week in the Tetons…ski / camp at Targhee and some touring on the pass and in the Teton National park. Looks like snow continues to follow me (or vice versa :).

Keep the faith..Love ya

Mt Baker…w/Zablockis

fun being with the ski family…hiking in the beauty of Mt Baker…

Busy family…no time for posing 🙂

Gave me a grin and thumbs up…. 🙂

Did a bit of touring today (last day in Mt Baker)…almost felt like I was with a movie star 🙂

Been a great 10 days in the PNW…heading out to intermountain west (stopping in McCall ID to ski Brundage) and then on to Grand Targhee to meet up with Grand Tunga (buddy) 🙂

Mt Baker… (guest blogger Heywood Zablocki).

Known around the world as ski resort that receives most snow of any resort in the world…with an average of 641 inches and a record of 1140 inches (almost 100 Feet!!!).

Alpental WA

Part of this journey is reconnecting with friends who share a love for the mountains and skiing as well as ski some places I have never been…

Such as this awesome gem

Buddy “Heywood”, at the top of Alpental…coolest ski area I have never heard of (so far:).

If you like Alta, A basin, Loveland, (and I bet a lot of places I have never been to …yet) you would love this place. Two chairs of note…some of the most interesting terrain and lots of spice! The 2 person lift reminds me of skiing in the midwest — the lift but not the terrain :)…

Chasing Powder…not exactly roughing it :)

Thanks to Pete and Marilee I was able to chase powder and stay at the Stein Ericksen lodge in deer valley… if I keep this up i will be black listed from any #vanlife sites 🙂

Don’t think they see to many sprinter campers at the “Stein” — the valet guys loved it .. “just park it in front”, “hey are those Goodrich tires –what size” 🙂

Spending time with Pete and Marilee + Powder day…talk about fortunate!
